For those who choose it will be possible to shorten the tour and visit Landsmót 2012 in Reykjavík at the weekend.

Program
Monday:
Guests arrive on Lýtingsstaðir. We will sit down and talk about the week program, get to know each other and take a first short ride. We will introduce you to our way of riding and the special gaits of the Icelandic horse. Dinner and accommodation on Lýtingsstaðir.
Tuesday:
We ride on an old path, which was forgotten for many years and has been discovered again a few years ago. The path was once used by the farmers to visit the community parliament. Now we enjoy the marvellous view over Skagafjörður while riding on the soft path. We find a nice place to stop in the Millennium’s forest and have lunch. We enjoy our willing and sure footed horses while riding back to Lýtingsstaðir. Dinner and accommodation on Lýtingsstaðir.
Wednesday:
We start the day with a visit of the Museum of Glaumbær, an old turf house, where we can experience the old way of living on an Icelandic farm. After a light lunch we will saddle up the horses and go for a 3-hour ride. Dinner and accommodation on Lýtingsstaðir.
Thursday:
We leave for a two-day ride into the highlands. We ride up on the mountain Goðdalafjall. It is like entering the top of the world when the view over the glaciers just opens in front of us. We cross a various landscape with rocks, stones, lava and heather (ca. 6 hours). We arrive at the new and cosy mountain cabin Hraunslækur. After dinner we will take us time for a walk down to the glacial river Jökulsá Vestari and back again to the hut along the most beautiful spring fed river with lots of small moos covered waterfalls. Afterwards we spend the evening together in the hut with maybe some singing and will have a good night sleep.
Friday:
After a relaxing night and a good breakfast we saddle our horses again and ride back to Lýtingsstaðir, enjoying the landscape, the view over Skagafjörður when riding down the mountains and the tölt of our horses which head home in fast speed (ca 5-6 hours). Dinner and accommodation on Lýtingsstaðir.
For those who would like to visit Landsmót 2012 in Reykjavík it will be possible to end the tour after the ride today and take the bus at 18.20 pm from Varmahlíð. Arrival in Reykjavík 23.00 pm.
Saturday:
We let the horses rest this morning and go to take a relaxing bath in the new natural hot pot Fosslaug just above the waterfall Reykjafoss. After a light lunch we will saddle the horses for a last ride, which will take us ca. 3 hours through the mountains and along the soft paths on the Svartá riverbanks who invite us for a last fast tölt on our marvellous horses. Back at Lýtingsstaðir we enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the last evening together talking about the past days full of new experiences.
