Ride & Discover
This program is a new concept for guests who have a rented car for the time of their stay. We have put up an interesting and various riding program which also gives time to discover Skagafjörður or take part on other then riding activities in the afternoon.
Riding program
Monday:
Guests arrive at 02.00 pm with a rented car. We will have some coffee and go for a first short ride (ca. 2 hours). Dinner and accommodation on Lýtingsstaðir.
Tuesday:
We saddle the horses at 09.00 am. Our ride lasts about 3 hours. We ride on an old path which was forgotten for many years and has been discovered again a few years ago. The path was once used by the farmers to visit the community parliament. Now we enjoy the marvellous view over Skagafjörður while riding on the soft path. Back at Lýtingsstaðir guests have a lunch break and have time for own activities until dinner at 07.00 pm.
Wednesday:
We leave for a ca. 5 hour ride at 10.00 am and ride into the beautiful valley Gilhagidalur. We stop at the Gilhagi waterfall and look at impressive basalt rocks at the river Gljúfrá. There we will have a lunch break and turn around down a steep mountain track with a view over the whole Skagafjörður. Guests can organize their free time after that until dinner.
Thursday:
This day is completely under guests own organisation. If they want to go for a long sightseeing day, it is possible to have an early breakfast, prepare a lunch package and organize a late dinner.
Herrings museum in Siglufjörður
Friday:
Todays ride starts at 09.00 am and brings us along soft riding paths on the Svartá riverbanks. Time for own activities after lunch. Dinner at 07.00 pm.
Saturday:
We saddle the horses after breakfast and ride over wide grazing lands. After the „cross country“ ride we follow the road back to Lýtingsstaðir. Time for own activities after lunch until dinnertime 07.00 pm.
Sunday:
The program ends after breakfast. Departure until 10 am.

Swimming pools and „Hot pots“ in Bakkaflöt, Varmahlið, Sauðárkrókur, Hólar….
Natural Hot Pot at the seaside (Grettislaug)
River Rafting on the glacial rivers, boat trips to the island Drangey
Walking path in Austurdalur or up to Mælifellshnjúkur (1138 m)
Following things are suggested for the long sightseeing day on Thursday:
Akureyri, Capital of the North, botanical garden
Siglufjörður, former “capital of the herring” with a famous and often awarded museum, trip can be coninued to Dalvík and Akureyri
Mývatn, an active volcano area with volcanos, lava, smelling solfatare areas, “Blue Lagoon of the North”, Dimmuborgir etc.
Akureyri – Goðafoss – Mývatn – Dettifoss – Ásbyrgi – Húsavík

We reserve the right to alter any itinerary in the participants best interest or for reasons of safety.
It is advisable to have your own personal insurance when joining the riding tour. This tour is undertaken at the participants own risk. Riders must wear riding helmets.
Your riding clothes and boots must be disinfected before you arrive.
For this riding tour it is necessary to have previous riding experience.
This tour requires a minimum of 4 participants.
