Breeding and sale - Stallions

We use suitable high judged as well as promising young stallions for breeding, depending on what is offered in Skagafjörður or an area nearby.

Here some examples of stallions we have been using during the last years:

At the moment we use our own young stallion Jörfi for some of our mares. Jörfi is out of our stud mare Drottning and the stallion Smári frá Skagaströnd. Jörfi has already proofed himself with a group of wonderful foals.

Jörfi

Jörfi frá Lýtingsstöðum

June, 1st 2003 - Jörfi is born

The little buckskin coloured colt is catching our attention from the first day.
His mother Drottning is an important mare in our stud, his father Smári has proofed himself with excellent offspring's and as a good show horse. Drottning's colour contains a créme gene which causes the buckskin colour.
Jörfi is a very friendly and open minded foal from the very beginning and his colour is a true eye catcher.

January 2004 - The first winter

Jörfi stays with his mother until January 2007 and spends the winter together with the other foals and yearlings.
On the picture he is left to his buckskin coloured sister Hulda.

Summer 2004 - The first experiences

Jörfi gets his first three mares when he is only one year old. Ósk gets pregnant. Happy Jörfi-lucky us!

Winter 2005 - Babysitter

Jörfi enjoys his youth with the foals born in 2004. He is a gentle babysitter.

May 2005 - Exposing young stallion

Spring is in the air and Jörfi shows growing interest in the mares on the field beside. Soon he will get a big group mares of his own.

July 2005 - The first offspring!!!

Òsk gives birth to Jörfi's first offspring. His beautiful daughter is buckskin with a blaze and we name her after the sun: Sunna.
The picture shows Sunna in September 2005.

Winter 2006 - The third winter

Jörfi spends his time again with the foals and enjoys the "Daddy-job" a lot. The little herd is staying close to the house and every time we walk by Jörfi comes to say "Hello". He is always kind and gentle and we enjoy his nearness.

May 2006 - Evaluation

Two breeding judges come and evaluate Jörfis confirmation. His very good back line is pointed out as well as his strong feet. We get the advice to keep him as a stallion. We are very happy with this.

Summer 2006 - Breeding season

Jörfi's foals are born from April until August. They have many different colours (buckskin, palomino, golden brown...) and are very interested in their new life. Jörfi gets again a group of mares.

Autumn 2006 - On vacation

Jörfi spends the autumn with his half brother, the stallion Tenor, on a big and nutritious field. The first working time waits for him and we want him to be well prepared for that.

January 2007 - The training starts

Life is getting serious now. We start to ride Jörfi in the beginning of January. Jörfi is perfect in his behaviour from the very beginning and much fun to ride. He is cooperative and willing to learn.
Jörfi has a strong trot and a very clear tolt. We do not ask him for pace yet but we are sure the fifth gait is there!
Jörfi is soon in a very good balance, soft in his mouth and "bomb proofed as a horse can be"!
We try to give him a light training during these month to avoid that he gets tired. He is still very young and we want him to keep happy.

Winter 2007 - Jörfi becomes a riding horse

We enjoy Jörfi, his gentle character and the training progress.
We can ride Jörfi everywhere, alone or in group, even with mares. There are no problems at all.
We keep him in training until April and stop riding him after that. He has learned a lot during the last months and we want him to rest before he meets the mares again in May.

Spring/summer 2007 - Foals and breeding season

The first foal is born on April, 13th. More foals arrive in May and June. There is again a big colour variety among them and we are satisfied with their confirmations and gaits.

While to foals are playing around and grow, Jörfi takes care of their mothers and makes sure to keep up the breeding.
Jörfi enjoys his life and welcomes personally every visitor on his field. He is the photo shooting star of the summer. Who wonders?

Autumn 2007 - The first Jörfi-exports

The first two offspring's are leaving Iceland in November. The mares Þyrnirós and Ösp have been sold to Sweden. We prepare them for the long journey and repeat what they had learned after they left their mothers: been tied up and lead around. Both of them are cooperative and follow us everywhere around. They handle the transport to Sweden very well and catch their new owners heart immediately.

Jörfi enjoyes a quiet time out on the fields to prepare for the next training period.

Winter 2008 - The second training period

We continue the training. Jörfi has become a strong young stallion and can be trained more know. We are satisfied with his progress, his strong tolt and trott.
Under the saddle and with all handling he is still a true angel!

Spring 2008 - Foals and breeding season

Jörfi is the sire of all foals from this year. The herd is very colour- and beautiful, curious and friendly.
A part of the mares is breed again by Jörfi.

Summer/autumn 2008 - Jörfi and his son

Jörfi spends the summer and autumn together with his buckskin coloured son Blossi. Blossi was sold as a foal, is still a stallion and will leave to Finland in 2009.
As they look almost the same it is hard to tell who is who from the distance.
